Computerized Dentistry

Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA)

The STA system is a computer controlled dental injection. The flow rate of the anesthetic is controlled by a computer, thus guaranteeing the injection to be slow and steady, and therefore comfortable.

Most people who have had a bad injection experience think that needles sting because the skin is pierced, but this is not so.  Most often, the sting was caused because the anesthetic was injected too quickly.  Essentially, the STA system removes the human error, thus making the process very reassuring for those who have had bad dental experiences.

What are the Advantages?
  • Non-threatening. Researchers have found that the Wand induces less anxiety than any other injection method (Kudo et al, 2001).
  • The precise control of flow rate and pressure reliably produces a comfortable injection even in potentially more “difficult” areas like the palate, where the tissue is less elastic.
  • Many dentists enjoy the light weight and easy handling. The penlike grasp allows the operator to rotate the handpiece, which can make it easier to glide the needle into the tissue.
  • Two “fancy” injection techniques (the AMSA and P-ASA, for the nerds among you) are much more comfortable and effective when the Wand is used.

E4D - One Hour Restorations

The E4D system is a state-of-the-art digital scanner, virtual design center, and milling unit capable of fabricating esthetic and strong porcelain restorations.  This system provides us with the capability of delivering same day porcelain crowns, veneers, inlays ans onlays to you using the latest in technology and clinically proven materials.  In contrast to conventional porcelain restorations, which often take two full appointments to restore a single tooth, the E4D system allows us to scan your tooth, design the final restoration virtually, and mill your metal-free restoration with precision in just about an hour.  This eliminates the need to wear a temporary for weeks and come back for another appointment.

Why same day dentistry?

Conventional dental methods of placing crowns usually require two appointments.  During the first one, the dentist prepares the tooth, take an impression and places a temporary crown.  The temporary is usually on for 2-3 weeks.  During that time lots of things can happen: the tooth may become sensitive or start hurting, it may break, or the temporary can pop off.  The E4D system eliminates the waiting period for a final restoration, saving you from possible discomfort and the time of having to come back.

A digital scanner creates a detailed 3-D image of the patients teeth by taking multiple photographs:

Spectra Caries Detector

Early caries detection has been sited as key to optimal prevention and treatment. Air Techniques’ Spectra uses fluorescence technology to aid in the detection of plaque and caries, especially early-stage enamel caries and hard-to-detect fissure caries. The lightweight handpiece has a high-resolution, high-sensitivity CCD sensor with autoexposure. The unit’s LEDs project high-energy light onto the tooth’s surface, causing cariogenic bacteria to fluoresce red and healthy enamel to fluoresce green.

What are the advantages?
  • Fluorescence technology indicates extent of decay with color and numerical readings.
    - Eliminates the guesswork for early caries detection.
    - Impressive, information-rich images enhance case acceptance
  • Early detection means more restoration and less excavation
  • Can be used during caries removal process to ensure all carious dentin is removed
  • Lets you store and compare images over time to track the effect of your treatment
  • Can be used to detect Fractured Tooth Syndrome, plaque and caries
  • Works with virtually any patient management software
  • Connects to computer with USB cable
  • Weighs only 2.1 ounces
